While the complex pattern called the Flower of Life has been used on temple floors since the ancient Assyrian era, modern spiritualist didn’t really know anything about the symbol until a man named Drunvalo Melchizedek started lecturing and writing books about its geometry in the 1980s. He is responsible for bringing the Flower into modern consciousness again and many of his spiritual teachings about Sacred Geometry are still practiced today. It is believed to contain a type of Akashic Record of basic information of all living things and is the visual expression of the connections of life that run through all sentient beings.
This symbol has been adorning temples built as early as 1600 B.C.
The Flower of Life consists of six circles that intersect, all contained in a larger seventh circle. This combination creates a complex series of ellipses and rings that reminds some people of the molecular patterns that form in crystals like common table salt and quartz. In many New Age communities, this symbolizes:
The Tree of Life from the Hebrew tradition of Qabalah
Enlightenment through the power of Sacred Geometry
The underlying structure of all life
The Platonic Solids, which were once thought to be the building blocks of every form of matter
Connection with the Universe on a soul level
A portal to other dimensions and worlds, either on a spiritual or physical level
Aligning your energies to a higher vibration
Leonardo Da Vinci put his considerable intelligence to the task of exploring the Flower of Life. He studied the Flower of Life's form and its mathematical properties. He drew the Flower of Life itself, as well as various components such as the Seed of Life. He drew geometric figures representing shapes such as the platonic solids, a sphere, a torus, etc., and also used the golden ratio of phi in his artwork; all of which may be derived from the Flower of Life design.
With a lot of different meanings to various groups, the Flower of Life is perfect for using for your own spiritual purposes. You can follow along with any of the existing meanings, or spend some time meditating on the symbol to reach your own conclusions.
